Anna the daughter of Phanuel

REFLECTION: Carving out Widows’ livelihoods & Ministry

By Rev M. Nhliziyo

This curious story about a certain widow, Anna, lies almost “neatly forgotten” in the narratives on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Like many living narratives of the Widows in societies today, it is an almost forgotten story. Yet it is full of beautiful lessons on how modern societies can utilize the skills and calling of widows.

Anna was a great woman of prayer.

We can do it too and dedicate ourselves to Prayer & Service Ministry.

A mid-week prayer and widows support mutual societies would be a good place to start.

A culture of care for widows and orphans as the most vulnerable groups would be a worthy calling.

Let us pray:🛐 Lord open our hearts to respond with love, justice and peace for the orphan, alien and the Widow s like Anna. Grant us a heart to worship and Hands to serve our neighbours in need. Amen.
